About

Pitch Dark is a frontend for exploring and playing Infocom text adventures on an 8-bit Apple II. Some notable features:

• UI for browsing all games and setting global options (pictured)
• Multiple versions of each game
• In-game protections removed (manual lookups, code wheels, &c.)
• Interactive hints based on the original Invisiclues
• Double hi-res box art (super hi-res on IIgs!)
• On Beyond Z-Machine! interpreter runs games directly from ProDOS (no swapping floppies!)

System requirements

Pitch Dark requires a minimum of 128K RAM and an enhanced Apple //e, Apple //c, or Apple IIgs.

Additionally, you will need a mass storage device that supports SmartPort calls and can mount a 32 MB ProDOS hard drive image. This is supported by all major emulators; if you are lucky enough to have a real working Apple ][, you can mount it with a CFFA3000, Floppy Emu, MicroDrive, BOOTI, Xdrive, or similar adapter.
